The first thing anyone looks at in a nursery is the name on the wall. Ours are cast in plaster and finished by hand, one letter at a time, in twelve matte colors chosen to sit quietly next to wood, rattan and linen. And because it is going in a room with a baby in it, we tell you honestly where to hang it — and ship the anchors to do it properly.
Most personalized nursery signs you will find are a machine-cut shape with a name stuck on it. Ours are made the slow way, which is why they look like an object rather than a print — and why they photograph the way they do.
Each letter is cast about half an inch thick, so it throws a soft shadow on the wall and reads as three-dimensional from across the room. Flat cut-outs disappear in daylight; these do not.
A five-letter name in 7″ letters weighs under a pound in total. That matters in a nursery: less weight on the wall means a smaller fixing, and a smaller thing to worry about.
Every finish is matte and low-contrast, mixed to sit beside natural wood and undyed cotton. No gloss, no glitter, nothing that will date the room in eighteen months.
The short answer: about two thirds of the crib’s width. A standard U.S. crib is 28″ across, so a sign between 18″ and 22″ wide looks right. Wider than the crib reads as heavy; narrower than half looks lost. Below is the rule drawn out, and a calculator for the actual name you have in mind.
Sign width: 18–22″ — roughly two thirds of the crib. Clearance: at least 24″ from the top rail to the bottom of the sign, so it stays out of reach once your baby pulls to stand and the mattress drops.

We sell these, so take this as seriously as you like: the safest wall in the room for anything decorative is not the one directly above the mattress. Here is what we actually tell people who ask.
Two drywall anchors and screws per letter group, removable mounting strips for the pieces light enough to take them, a paper spacing template you tape to the wall so the letters land level and evenly spaced, and a one-page card with the clearances above written down. No trip to the hardware store.

The name in plaster with a small macramé arch behind it, colour-matched as one piece. This is the one people order when it is a gift and they want it to land.
Mixed in the studio and finished matte. The first six are the neutrals people choose when they want the wood and the linen to do the talking; the second six are the accents.
Send us the paint code or a photo of the wall in daylight and we will mix to it at no extra cost. It adds a day or two while we cast a test chip and send you a photo of it against the name.

Tighter than that? Message us before you order. We will tell you honestly whether it makes the date, and we would rather say no than post something late.
A standard U.S. crib is 28″ wide, and a name sign looks balanced at roughly two thirds of that — about 18–22″ across. In practice that is 7″ letters for a four or five letter name, and 5″ letters for anything six letters or longer. Use the size calculator above for the exact name you have in mind, or send it to us and we will measure it properly.
Safe-sleep guidance is that nothing should be able to fall into the crib, so the honest answer is that the safest wall for anything decorative is the one above the dresser rather than directly over the mattress.
If you do hang it above the crib: leave at least 24″ of clearance from the top rail, anchor into a stud or a proper drywall anchor rather than adhesive alone, and check the fixing every few months. Every nursery piece ships with anchors and written instructions. If you are unsure, put it on the opposite wall — it looks better from the doorway anyway.
Long loose cords are a strangulation risk near a crib, which is why our nursery banners are built differently from our standard wall hangings: the fringe is trimmed short, there are no long free-hanging cords, and the piece is designed to sit flat against the wall.
We still recommend hanging any fiber piece on a wall the baby cannot reach from the crib. If a room only has one wall available and it is the crib wall, take the plaster letters instead — we will tell you the same thing on WhatsApp.
At least 24″ between the top rail of the crib and the bottom of the sign. Once your baby can pull to stand the mattress drops and the top rail becomes the thing they hold on to, so anything within about 12″ of that rail is within reach.

Yes, and most people do. If the name is a secret until the birth, order the piece and ask us to hold the ship date — we keep it boxed and ready and send it the day you tell us to. There is no charge for holding a finished piece for up to sixty days.
It is our most-gifted piece. Order at least three weeks before the shower to be comfortable. We ship straight to the parents-to-be with a hand-written card if you want, and if the name has not been announced yet we send a gift card with a photo of the piece, so there is still something to open on the day.
Oat, Sand, Warm White and Clay read as neutral in almost any room and photograph well against both white and painted walls. Sage and Terracotta are the two accents people pick most often. Personalised pieces are not returnable for a change of mind — the name makes it unsellable to anyone else, which is why we insist on the preview first. But if we got something wrong, or it arrives damaged, that is entirely on us: send a photo within seven days and we remake it or refund it in full, return postage included.
