Ordering something handmade raises questions that ordering from a warehouse does not. Here are ours, answered the way we would answer them in a message — and if yours is not here, ask us.
No. Most orders here start as a conversation, not a checkout. Message us on WhatsApp or email with what you have in mind, and we send you a written quote with the size, finish and delivery date before anything is charged. Ready-made pieces and kits can also be bought directly from their product page.
Yes — that is most of what we do. Name signs are made in your choice of letter height and one of twelve studio colours. Wall hangings can be sized to a specific wall and matched to a palette you send us. If you want something that is not on the site at all, describe it and we will tell you honestly whether we can make it well.
Every custom order gets a photograph of the finished piece on the studio bench before it is packed. Not a rendering — the real object. If the colour reads differently than you expected or a letter looks heavy, we adjust it and re-photograph. Nothing ships until you say yes.
You can cancel for a full refund any time before production starts, usually within the first 24 hours. After that, we can still change colours and finishes on most pieces, but we cannot un-cut cord or un-pour plaster. Message us as early as you can and we will do whatever is still physically possible.
Often, yes. Tell us the date you need it in hand and we will tell you before you pay whether we can meet it. We would rather turn down a rush than miss a birthday.
We send a secure payment link with your quote — card, Apple Pay and PayPal are all accepted. Large commissions are split into a deposit to begin and the balance once you approve the finished photo. We never ask for card details over WhatsApp or email.
Single-twist cotton cord in 3mm and 5mm, real wood dowels and rings sanded by hand, plaster cast in our own silicone moulds, and water-based low-odour pigment. That is the whole list. No synthetic filler cord sold as “cotton blend”, no laser-cut wood finished to look like plaster, no imported blanks re-labelled as handmade.
The pigment is water-based and low-odour, and once fully cured the surface is inert. Plaster is a solid, breakable material, so it should be mounted on a wall out of reach rather than left standing on a shelf or inside a crib. We include adhesive mounting strips with every sign so nothing needs a nail in a rented wall.
The cotton is undyed or dyed with fibre-reactive dye and is not treated with anything you would not want touched. That said, long fringe is a strangulation and pulling hazard for infants and cats alike — hang fiber pieces high enough that they cannot be reached from a crib, a changing table or a cat tree.
Close, but screens vary. Our colours are photographed in daylight without filters, which is the best we can do honestly. If an exact match matters — a nursery palette, a brand colour — ask us for a photo of the actual pigment before we start, and we will send one.
Yes, by Mariale and a very small studio team. We do not hold finished stock waiting to be matched to a customer, and we do not drop-ship. That is why the lead times on this site are measured in days rather than hours.
Both. Some designs we make again and again, and because they are knotted by hand no two are perfectly identical — small variations in fringe and tension are the signature of the process, not a defect. Commissions are made once and not repeated.
Dust it with a soft brush or the upholstery attachment of a vacuum on low. For a mark, blot with a cloth barely damp with cold water and let it air-dry fully. Never machine-wash, never wring, and never bleach — cotton cord loses its twist and the piece will not hang the same afterwards.
Every order ships with adhesive mounting strips rated well above the weight of the piece. Clean the wall with alcohol first, press for thirty seconds, and wait an hour before hanging. For pieces over 36″ wide we also include wall anchors, since fiber that heavy deserves a fixing you can trust.
Undyed cotton lightens very slightly and evenly over years, which most people never notice. Strong dyed colours in direct all-day sun will fade faster. If a wall gets hard afternoon light, choose a natural or sand tone rather than a deep colour.
Yes. Comb the fringe gently with a wide-tooth comb from the bottom up, and steam it lightly — a kettle or a garment steamer at a distance — to bring the fall back. If a knot has pulled loose, photograph it and send it to us; we will talk you through it or repair it for you.
Dust with a dry soft cloth. Do not use water, sprays or any cleaner — plaster is porous and will mark. Keep it out of bathrooms and other permanently humid rooms.
Production time plus transit time. Name signs are made in 5–7 business days, kits in 1–3, wall hangings in 10–14. U.S. transit is 3–6 business days after that; international is 7–21 depending on the country. The full table lives on our shipping page.
$6 flat anywhere in the continental U.S., and free on orders over $150. International is flat by region — $22 to Canada and Mexico, $28 to the UK and Europe, $34 to Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Every rate is listed on the shipping page.
Yes, worldwide. Import duty or VAT charged by your own country is set by your customs authority and collected on delivery, so it is not included in our prices. We declare every parcel accurately and cannot mark an order as a gift.
Always — by email and WhatsApp the day your parcel leaves the studio. If tracking has not moved in five business days, tell us and we will open the carrier claim ourselves rather than send you to do it.
Send us photos of the piece and the outer box within 7 days. We remake and reship immediately; we do not make you wait for the carrier claim to resolve first.
Not for a change of mind — a personalised piece cannot be resold to anyone else. But if we made the error, it is entirely ours to fix: a wrong colour, a misspelling from a spelling you gave us correctly, or a piece that does not match the photo you approved is remade or refunded in full, return postage included.
Ready-made wall hangings and crochet goods within 30 days, and unopened DIY kits within 30 days. Anything faulty, damaged or late against a date we promised in writing is returnable regardless of category. The full breakdown is on the shipping and returns page.
Five business days from when the returned piece reaches the studio, back to your original payment method. We refund the original shipping too when the return is our fault.
Yes. Each kit includes pre-measured cord with generous margin, the dowel or ring, a printed step-by-step booklet with photographed knots, and video links. You need no prior experience and no tools beyond scissors and a tape measure.
You should not — we cut every kit with extra, precisely because we have all bought a kit that ran short four rows from the bottom. If it happens anyway, message us and we will send you more cord at no charge.
Yes, for groups, private events, brands and team days, plus scheduled sessions at the studio. We bring the materials, the boards and the patience. Tell us the group size and the date and we will quote it.
Both. Kits ship gift-wrapped with a hand-written card and no price on the slip if you ask. Workshop places can be bought as a gift and the date chosen later by the recipient.
Yes, in small batches that we can make properly — typically 10 to 40 pieces per order with a 4 to 6 week lead time. Email the studio with your shop, your city and roughly what you are looking for and we will send the line sheet and terms.
We do. Past work includes event backdrops, retail installations and photographed sets. These are quoted individually with a written scope, a delivery date and a deposit schedule before anything begins.
Please do get in touch first — we are glad to be featured and will happily send high-resolution images, credits and Mariale's bio. Just email the studio and tell us where it is going.
WhatsApp +1 786 501 1185 or bohemiahandmadestudio@gmail.com. There is no ticketing system here; the person who answers is the person who makes the work, usually the same day.
Sizing for a specific wall, a delivery date for an event, a colour you cannot find, a wholesale enquiry. Message the studio and you will get a real answer from a real maker.
